“Every time I’ve gone and visited a prison, I’ve met some of the smartest individuals with the brightest ideas and to see the changes that are happening to make their reentry easier, I think, is going to be life changing and give so many people hope,” said Kardashian during the roundtable. One organizer complained that the White House Correspondents’ Association — which represents the hundreds of journalists who cover the president — largely has been silent since the first weeks of the war about the killings of Palestinian journalists. Ralliers cried “Free, free Palestine.” They cheered when at one point someone inside the Washington Hilton — where the dinner has been held for decades — unfurled a Palestinian flag from a top-floor hotel window. To get inside Saturday’s dinner, some guests had to hurry through hundreds of protesters outraged over the mounting humanitarian disaster for Palestinian civilians in Gaza. They condemned Biden for his support of Israel’s military campaign and Western news outlets for what they said was undercoverage and misrepresentation of the conflict.

The Administration

Because of crowding within the executive mansion itself, President Theodore Roosevelt had all work offices relocated to the newly constructed West Wing in 1901. Eight years later, in 1909, President William Howard Taft expanded the West Wing and created the first Oval Office, which was eventually moved and expanded. In the Executive Residence, the third floor attic was converted to living quarters in 1927 by augmenting the existing hip roof with long shed dormers. A newly constructed East Wing was used as a reception area for social events; Jefferson's colonnades connected the new wings. The East Wing alterations were completed in 1946, creating additional office space. By 1948, the residence's load-bearing walls and wood beams were found to be close to failure.

"Often presidents are not there in the first few weeks of their terms if they succeeded a president who died in office," said Treese. Former First Lady Laura Bush was keenly aware of all the attention that previous women in her position got for their hair. To help her look the part, she hired her own hairstylist to give her a daily blowout, which the Bush family paid for themselves, CNN reports. Another thing presidents have to pay for (or raise money for) themselves? Next, learn the rules every First Family is supposed to follow. The practice continued until 1885, when newly elected Grover Cleveland arranged for a presidential review of the troops from a grandstand in front of the White House instead of the traditional open house. President Bill Clinton briefly revived the New Year's Day open house in his first term. The central Executive Residence is home to the president’s living spaces and the State Rooms.

The governor of New York (Andrew Cuomo) is just one of many chief executives not living in their state's big house. When California's former Governor Jerry Brown moved into that state's Governor's Mansion in 2017, it had been without a full-time resident for more than half a century before. Massachusetts, Idaho, Arizona and Rhode Island are among the states that don't even have an executive residence. Following his April 1789 inauguration, President George Washington occupied two private houses in New York City, which served as the executive mansion. In May 1790, construction began on a new official residence in Manhattan called Government House.

"I think he meant he was never in the bedrooms or kitchen or solarium etc." Biden also said that during his eight-year tenure as vice president with President Barack Obama, he had never been in the upstairs residence. The White House became one of the first wheelchair-accessible government buildings in Washington, D.C. When modifications were made during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt, who used a wheelchair because of his paralytic illness.

First Lady Michelle Obama confirmed this in a 2018 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Here are 8 perks U.S. presidents get to keep after leaving office. Learn more about the current administration, our country’s former presidents, and the official residence. He later took to Twitter Tuesday night to say that Biden had been in the residence "dozens of times," although he said Biden may have meant that he had not been in all parts of the private living quarters. "What I didn't realize, I had been in the Oval Office a hundred times as vice president -- more than that -- every morning for the initial meetings," Biden said.

A small East Wing was first added in 1902 as an entrance to the White House. Today’s structure was built in 1942 and sits atop the Presidential Emergency Operations Center. The two-story East Wing houses the office spaces of the first lady and her staff. The private residence of the first family is located on the second floor. In addition to the Presidential Bedroom Suite, the second floor includes historic spaces, such as the Queens’ Bedroom, the Treaty Room, the Yellow Oval Room, the Center Hall, and the East and West Sitting Rooms. In March 1948, Truman replaced the original awnings overlooking the south lawn with a balcony in order to give him and his family another outdoor living space and a greater view of the surrounding city.

Bordering the East Colonnade is the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, which was begun by Jacqueline Kennedy but completed after her husband's assassination. Italian artisans, brought to Washington to help in constructing the U.S. This was done to link the new portico with the earlier carved roses above the entrance. Before she moved into the White House, Michelle Obama’s priority was getting things ready for her daughters, Sasha and Malia, and her mother, Marian Robinson.

Celebrities included Academy Award winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Scarlett Johansson, Jon Hamm and Chris Pine. Trump did not attend Saturday’s dinner and never attended the annual banquet as president. In 2011, he sat in the audience, and glowered through a roasting by then-President Barack Obama of Trump’s reality-television celebrity status. Obama’s sarcasm then was so scalding that many political watchers linked it to Trump’s subsequent decision to run for president in 2016. In an op-ed for The New York Post in April, journalist Miranda Devine claimed that Hunter Biden was rumored to be living at the White House with his wife and their 3-year-old son to avoid being served with legal papers from an Arkansas mother of a child he fathered in 2018.

After September 11, 2001, this change was made permanent, in addition to closing E Street between the South Portico of the White House and the Ellipse.[109] In response to the Boston Marathon bombing, the road was closed to the public in its entirety for a period of two days. In June 2023, fighter jets moved to intercept a light aircraft that violated Washington DC airspace near the White House, before it crashed in Virginia.[108] All occupants in the intrusion aircraft were killed. We'll be in touch with the latest information on how President Biden and his administration are working for the American people, as well as ways you can get involved and help our country build back better.

In the 1990s, Hillary Clinton, at the suggestion of the Visitors Office director, approved the addition of a ramp in the East Wing corridor, affording easier wheelchair access for the public tours and special events that enter through the secure entrance building on the east side. Jacqueline Kennedy, wife of President John F. Kennedy (1961–63), directed a very extensive and historic redecoration of the house. Early maps referred to the White House as the “President’s Palace,” but in 1810, the building was officially named “Executive Mansion” in order to avoid any connection to royalty. The residence has also been called “President’s House,” or “President’s Mansion.” In 1901, President Theodore Roosevelt changed the official name to “White House,” a moniker that had been used throughout the 19th century. The White House’s attic was converted into a third floor during the Coolidge administration, and over the years, it has hosted a music room for President Clinton and a bedroom suite for Melania Trump.

The following year, the cornerstone was laid and a design submitted by Irish-born architect James Hoban was chosen. After eight years of construction, President John Adams and his wife Abigail moved into the still-unfinished residence. During the War of 1812, the British set fire to the President’s House, and James Hoban was appointed to rebuild it.

Nine proposals were submitted for the new presidential residence with the award going to Irish-American architect James Hoban. Capitol and the White House.[17] Hoban was born in Ireland and trained at the Dublin Society of Arts. He emigrated to the U.S. after the American Revolution, first seeking work in Philadelphia and later finding success in South Carolina, where he designed the state capitol in Columbia. In 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt began a major renovation of the White House, including the relocation of the President’s offices from the Second Floor of the Residence to the newly constructed temporary Executive Office Building (now known as the West Wing).

Too often, airlines drag their feet on refunds or rip folks off with junk fees. It’s time Americans got a better deal.Today, my Administration is requiring that airlines provide automatic refunds to passengers when they’re owed, and protect them from surprise fees. However, former White House photographer Pete Souza, who documented the eight years of Obama's time at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue through a camera lens, posted a photo on Instagram of Biden in the residence with Obama in 2011. "I don’t know about you all, but I was raised in a way that you didn’t look for anybody to wait on you," he said. "And it’s where I find myself extremely self-conscious for wonderful people who work in the White House. But someone standing there and hands me my suit coat." President Joe Biden, after one month of living in perhaps the most exclusive residence in the country, says staying in the White House is like being in a "gilded cage."

House Centipedes: What They Are and How to Get Rid of Them

house centipede

Unlike most other centipedes, House Centipedes and their close relatives have well-developed, faceted eyes. The House Centipede, when fully grown, has 15 pairs of very long, delicate legs and a rigid body, which enables it to run with surprising speed up walls and along ceilings and floors. Its body is yellowish grey and has three dark-colored dorsal stripes running down its length.

Letter 2 – Cave Centipede from Vietnam

Centipedes are rarely seen by humans due to their nocturnal activity and the speed in which they move. Most centipedes live for more than a year and some up to six years. House centipedes don’t harm or destroy stored products, fabrics, pets, humans, or the structural integrity of your building and are generally only considered a nuisance. All house centipedes are venomous, but they typically run away from humans, and they very rarely bite. Even if house centipedes bite you, it’s considered harmless.

Seal cracks and openings

Females have been known to survive for several years and produce up to 150 young. During the daytime, the centipedes inhabit dark, damp locations in the home and come out at night to forage for prey. They do not instantly change direction when light is suddenly shone at them, but will retreat to a darker hiding spot. Unlike most other centipedes, house centipedes and their close relatives have well-developed faceted eyes. Newly hatched larvae, which are rarely seen, have four pairs of legs. The larvae undergo six molts and gain new pairs of legs after every molt.

We have selected your submission as the Bug of the Month for March. By eliminating their food sources, you make your home less attractive to these unwanted guests. These centipedes move rapidly and are often seen darting across floors (source). When the lights dim and the moon rises, nocturnal-hunting centipedes spring into action. There are more than 8,000 centipede species in the world, appearing on every continent except Antarctica. Have you ever seen a many-legged creature scurrying so fast across the ground that you take a second look to make sure you actually saw it?

Centipedes are nature’s exterminator.

house centipede

Getting rid of other pests from your house will go a long way toward reducing the number of house centipedes you see. House centipedes have a pair of legs called forcipules right below their mouths, converted to carry out pincer-like actions. They use these pincer-like legs to discharge a venomous sting at their prey or use it for self-defense. The pair of legs at the end of centipedes’ bodies is very long and resembles the antennae in front. This makes it tough for the centipede’s prey to differentiate the front from the rear. It has 15 pairs of legs, the last pair nearly twice the length of the body on adult females.

Protecting Your Home from House Centipedes

Centipedes typically leave no direct signs of an infestation other than the sighting of the pest itself. Hi Again Fred, Many years ago we posted a similar looking Cave Centipede from Borneo, and there are also similar Centipedes from Vietnam in our archives. Though they are not in homes, we do classify them with the House Centipedes. Mary Marlowe Leverette is one of the industry's most highly-regarded housekeeping and fabric care experts, sharing her knowledge on efficient housekeeping, laundry, and textile conservation. She is also a Master Gardener with over 40+ years of experience and 20+ years of writing experience. Mary is also a member of The Spruce Gardening and Plant Care Review Board.

Empty the vacuum cup or vacuum bag into a sealable plastic bag and dispose of it in an outdoor trash can. Because house centipedes help you control infestations of other, more bothersome pests, there’s little reason to exterminate them. Pesticides are of limited effectiveness in eliminating house centipedes. With their long legs, they hold their bodies high when they move, allowing them limited contact with pesticide-laden surfaces, making most pesticides less effective. The house centipede (Scutigera coleoptrata) is the most common centipede found in the U.S. These centipedes are sometimes referred to as “hundred-leggers,” due to their many pairs of legs.

10 Places You Never Knew Pests Were Hiding

Coleoptrata has developed automimicry in that its tail-like hind legs present the appearance of antennae. When the centipede is at rest, it is not easy to tell its cranial end from its caudal end. Since centipedes are nocturnal, it can be tough to determine whether you have them in your house.

For example, centipedes will have 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13 pairs of legs respectively after each molting stage, while after the final molt, they have 15 pairs of legs. They undergo four post-larval instars before reaching maturity. These predators can contribute to a natural balance and help reduce the number of house centipedes in your home. Overall, understanding the behavior and diet of house centipedes can be helpful for managing their presence in your home. While their appearance can be alarming, gaining a better understanding of house centipedes can help ease fears and promote a more peaceful coexistence with these speedy, unique inhabitants. In this article, we will explore the characteristics, behavior, and natural role of these intriguing crawlers, shedding light on their place within our indoor ecosystems.

Centipedes are found throughout the United States and the world. They are typically found in areas of high moisture, such as in rotting logs, under stones, in trash or piles of leaves/grass. When they invade homes, centipedes are most commonly found in damp basements, crawlspaces, bathrooms, or potted plants. Its body is yellowish-grey and has three dark dorsal stripes running down its length; the legs also have dark stripes.

House centipedes also thrive outdoors and live under logs, rocks, and fallen tree bark. If handled roughly, some larger species can inflict a painful bite that can break human skin and cause pain and swelling, similar to a bee sting. The large Scolopendra can inflict a very painful bite and should be handled with great care. Keeping your basement neat also helps prevent the collection of damp spots around boxes and other items, which could attract these creatures. Dear Paige, Though it was found in a cave, we believe this is a member of the order Scutigeromorpha, the members of which are commonly called House Centipedes.

Inside the home, they can be found in bathrooms and lavatories, which tend to be humid, but they can also be found in drier places like offices, bedrooms and dining rooms. They are usually seen crawling along the ground or floor, but they are capable of climbing walls. The greatest likelihood of encountering them is in spring, when they emerge due to warmer weather and in autumn/fall, when the cooling weather forces them to seek shelter in human habitats. Although they can look disgusting to some, they don’t harm humans. On the contrary, they help you by preying on other common household pests such as cockroaches, silverfish, firebrats, carpet beetle larvae, spiders, termites, bed bugs, and other small arthropods.

You can find one near you with the helpful zip code search below. Some of the plates covering the body segments fused and became smaller during the evolution to the current state of S. The resulting mismatch between body segments and dorsal plates (tergites) is the cause for this centipede's rigid body. Dear Malia, Though it looks quite fearsome, this common House Centipede is actually a shy nocturnal hunter. It is a beneficial creature that will help keep the Cockroach population down.

While house centipedes themselves do not pose health risks, their presence indicates that there are other pests around. Centipedes are generally dark brown or yellow and sometimes have darker colors and markings. Adult centipedes have three dark parallel lines running from their head to the rear end of their bodies and a hair-covered pair of antennae on their heads. While some centipede species have compound eyes containing up to 200 optical units, others have a few simple eyes on each side of the head.

They are classified with Insects in the phyllum Arthropoda. Remove leaves and weeds and seal cracks to prevent any seepage of moisture into your home. Centipedes are nocturnal, leaving their daytime cover to find food. They will enter a house through cracks or openings in the foundation, so checking your home for unwanted entrances is crucial to establishing a pest-free home. In North America, you most often will find centipedes outside in moist locations, hiding under protective areas such as stones, leaves, and logs. They will also come indoors, so it’s not unusual to find one in your house.

I am very amused that your friend named her poor dead House Centipede “Satan” which might explain why it is dead. They are harmless, though they often startle people when they run across a floor at night. They are very fast, but will kill and eat spiders and cockroaches and other undesireable household intruders. Using preventive measures will eventually make your home a less hospitable place for house centipedes, and they may just leave on their own, seeking greener pastures (and damper basements). There are a few methods you can use to deter house centipedes from taking up residence in your home.

For a bedroom off the nursery, Carmine Sabatella wanted to create a jewel-toned escape. “I thought, if somebody’s taking care of the baby, they have a space where they can come and feel like it’s a retreat,” Sabatella says. The designer outfitted a door handcrafted in India with a vintage mirror to create a one of a kind headboard and bathed the space in deep emerald green. The glamorous touches continue in the ensuite bath, where Sabatella added a custom mirror-tiled tub that plays off the vintage French tile floor. The designers worked with a color palette of Dunn-Edwards paints, and several chose to highlight the brand’s 2024 Color of the Year, a steely blue called Skipping Stones.

Designer Mark Hermogeno paid tribute to Silver Queen Susanna Bransford Emery-Holmes in the kitchen, butler’s pantry, family room, powder room, and mudroom. “We had thought, What if she actually came back to life and asked us to remodel the space? They brought in plenty of glitz and glamour befitting the Silver Queen. “We wanted to concentrate on polished nickels and polished chromes to get that silver feel back in,” he says of the fixtures, hardware, and lighting by Kohler and Kallista. Hermogeno and designer Lynette Chin brought in a mix of vintage and new furnishings in the family room, incorporating performance fabrics for durability. “[We made] sure that it was a really usable room, that it didn’t just look nice,” Hermogeno says.

Designer Lara Hovanessian packed plenty of bold design elements into the powder room and adjacent lounge. A moody House of Hackney floral wall covering lines the dressing area, which leads to a powder room accented with a Kelly Wearstler’s Graffito II from Walnut Wallpaper. A black-and-white triangular mosaic tile floor by Artistic Tile from Mission Tile West puts a contemporary twist on the classic checkered pattern. The event draws more than 25,000 guests each year and offers several dining spaces, including Roe Japanese Fusion, the Tudor Rose Bistro, and Wattle & Daub Tavern.

An office space in the Gatehouse is now a soothing spa-inspired lounge designed by Margaret Lalikian. The designer referenced the house’s original name, El Robles—Spanish for oak tree—with a tree-filled landscape mural by Arpy Dabbaghian. “For the wall mural, I had to pick something to bring them into nature and a calming environment,” Lalikian says.

That tradition continues today, and The Kittle House has become synonymous with delicious, elegant and refined farm-to-table cuisine.

History

Our Taproom Bar, brought to the Inn in the 1950s by a former owner, was originally installed in the Fanny Brite pub in England. It was sent as a gift from a famous actress who frequented the Kittle House across the Atlantic, and installed in an (in)famous speakeasy in Manhattan in the 1920s. Once the speakeasy was raided by police during Prohibition, it was kept in storage for decades before a former owner purchased it at auction, and installed it in our Tap Room. Now, it proudly displays of our Spirits and welcomes our guests into the cozy, wood-paneled tap room.

Homeowner's Guide to House Centipedes

house centipede bite

However, don’t worry; they tend to be found in small numbers, so infestations are rare. There are various ways to keep centipedes out of your home—or at least make it more difficult for them to move in—beyond banishing the bugs they eat. In addition to using a dehumidifier, run your bathroom fan for a solid five minutes after a bath or shower to remove moisture. Seal up any cracks or crevices where house centipedes may be sneaking in, and caulk all baseboards and door and window casings. Clear any leaf litter or wood debris from around the perimeter of your home, especially if it’s damp.

What should you do if you’ve been bitten by a centipede?

She’s worked on thousands of articles related to heating, air conditioning, ventilation, roofing, plumbing, lawn/garden, pest control, insurance, and other general homeownership topics. Sam Wasson graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Film and Media Arts with an Emphasis in Entertainment Arts and Engineering. Sam brings over four years of content writing and media production experience to the Today’s Homeowner content team. He specializes in the pest control, landscaping, and moving categories. Sam aims to answer homeowners’ difficult questions by providing well-researched, accurate, transparent, and entertaining content to Today’s Homeowner readers. Dear Dr. Willis,This common House Centipede is frequently found in the home where it startles residents.

What Attracts House Centipedes?

House centipedes can bite, but their tiny jaws make it extremely difficult for them to bite through clothing. The thickness and material of the fabric also play a part in their capacity to pierce it. If a centipede is found indoors, you can get rid of it with a vacuum. However, you should contact a licensed pest professional if you suspect an infestation. You can find one near you with the helpful zip code search below. People working in their yards or down in dank cellars are particularly susceptible to surprise encounters.

Symptoms of a House Centipede Bite

house centipede bite

This yellowish-grey centipede will typically be a few inches long with more than 15 pairs of legs, making it among the fastest in the centipede family. In some situations, underlying diseases may affect the outlook of a person with a centipede bite. For example, people with diabetes may experience more severe skin reactions and infections following a centipede bite. Researchers must continue to study centipede bites to determine the effect of the different components of centipede venom on humans. In this article, we discuss the possible symptoms and treatments of a centipede bite, as well as the outlook for a person who receives one.

Interaction with humans

Fortunately, there are practical measures you can take to minimize the chances of encountering these creatures in your home and getting bitten. House centipedes, despite their intimidating appearance, are generally harmless to humans and do not bite unless they feel threatened or provoked. Because house centipedes prefer warm and wet environments, they’re frequently found in the Southern states. However, you’ll also find them in Northern basements, taking shelter from the cold outside.

They hunt spiders, bed bugs, termites, cockroaches, silverfish, and other common arthropods. House centipedes are not venomous, and their bite, while rare, is not medically significant. If they feel threatened or cornered, they may bite, which can cause mild pain, redness, and swelling, but these symptoms are typically not severe and can be managed with basic first aid.

This makes it tough for the centipede’s prey to differentiate the front from the rear. So, use their presence as an indicator of other potential infestations happening under your nose! You might be dealing with termites, roaches, or a host of other household pests.

house centipede bite

But this could signify the presence of other arthropods or pests that are prey for the house centipede–a sign of a bigger problem. Believe it or not, but the house centipede is a skilled predator. They eat everything from larger cockroaches, spiders, and wasps to smaller ants and termites! Still, house centipedes are basically harmless to humans, and they're effective predators of other insect nuisances, including roaches, flies, silverfish, and termites.

When a house centipede bites, it can cause small puncture wounds and blisters. The bites are often quite painful and may lead to symptoms such as swelling and redness at the bite site. In some cases, individuals may also experience headache, chest pain, heart tremors, nausea, and vomiting as a result of the bite. However, some centipedes have venom which produces a variety of toxins, including chemicals such as histamine, serotonin, and cardio-depressant toxin-S.

There are more than 8,000 centipede species in the world, appearing on every continent except Antarctica. Researchers have isolated more than 500 components of centipede venom, but they have only described a few of these. The bite looks like two red marks on the skin, which form a V-shape due to the positioning of the forcipules of the centipede. The symptoms typically disappear within a few hours or days, and there is a low risk of any long-term consequences.

In fact, house centipedes play an essential role in controlling other pests, as they prey on insects and other arachnids. As long as you’re not allergic to their venom, you can coexist with these useful creatures without much trouble. House centipedes are skilled hunters that prey on insects and other arthropods. Like all centipedes, their front legs are modified into "poison claws" used to inject venom into their prey.

The house centipede is light yellow-brown in color, with three dark longitudinal stripes down its body. House centipedes also have large compound eyes, which is unusual for centipedes. House centipedes are common pests found in homes, especially in damp and dark areas. They primarily reside in outdoor habitats like gardens and basements but can enter homes during hot or dry conditions outdoors. Bites normally cause minimal, localized pain, but some individuals may experience severe pain.

While they thrive in warm, tropical, and humid climates, house centipedes are remarkably adaptable and can survive in a wide range of environments. There are a few methods you can use to deter house centipedes from taking up residence in your home. Centipedes are most active at night because they shy away from light and are nocturnal hunters. Their presence often points to further pest problems, as they feed on ants, spiders, and crickets. While centipedes are not dangerous, their fast movements and alarming appearance make many people uneasy. These centipedes are primarily active at night and prefer to hide in dark, secluded areas.

For just a $35 buy-in, he was able to participate in the tournament. Each round included six people with $2,000 worth of chips. The winner of each round advanced, with the top six earnings making the final round.

The majority of the indoor bars were right off the main corridor. It seemed that when trying to relax with a drink you constantly had the noise of people moving about and even from other bars or restaurants. Another favorite was the Prime Meridian Bar, located between Cagney’s Steakhouse and Moderno Churrascaria. That was a great place to grab a drink before (or after) dinner, even if you are dining elsewhere. Our biggest complaint was that they didn’t have a lot of seating other than right at the bar. For lunch, O’Sheehan’s offers traditional pub fare of burgers and sandwiches, along with a few appetizers, soups and salads.

Unfortunately, that venue was very small, and lines for shows formed well ahead of time, which we didn’t want to wait in. Norwegian Breakaway Deck Plans Spread Out Venues, Leave Cabin Areas Quiet

In February 2023, Grant and I took our seventh cruise together, a seven-night Western Caribbean cruise on the Norwegian Breakaway. After seven cruises, all on different ships, we’ve definitely figured out what we like and don’t like. In this article, we’ll review the Norwegian Breakaway, including its layout and amenities. Like other cabins on the Norwegian Breakaway, the aft-facing cabins have a 26-inch flat screen television, lots of storage space, desk, good lighting, and a full-size closet. The bathroom includes a large sink, toilet, enclosed vanity area, and shower. Since these cabins have an aft view, the balcony is larger and has lounge chairs.

Balcony Cabin Bathroom Vanity

That said, our last cruise was less than 1/3 full following COVID, so that might be coloring our opinions a little. Overall, the layout of the Norwegian Breakaway was fairly standard. It had the main shopping, dining, and entertaining areas on Decks 6, 7 and 8.

Differences Among Ships Within the Breakaway Class

Not because it’s bad, but because it is often crowded and noisy. We just don’t like fighting for a table and all the chaos. The 32 aft-facing balcony cabins (category B1) on the Norwegian Breakaway are found on decks 8 through 14.

We really enjoyed The Waterfront on each side and were surprised at how quiet that area was most of the time. That said, I think it made the inside area feel a bit more cramped. At Headliners (a small performance venue), you could find either a comedian or Howl at the Moon, a dueling piano show. We attended Howl at the Moon a few times over the week and enjoyed the show every time. Still, being that high over the ship and the water was a bit too much for me. There is seriously no way I could have done that while sailing!

The 449 inside cabins (categories IA, IE, IB, IC, IF, ID, IX) on the Norwegian Breakaway measure 151 square feet. They include most of the features found in the oceanview and balcony cabins but have no window or balcony. Elsewhere, other activities include seminars for detoxing, art auctions, wine tastings, bingo, international crew talent show, and solo travelers' meet and greets. Entertainment options also include the NCL's FIREWORKS show (on each voyage), "Rock of Ages", "Cirque Dreams", "Illusionarium" (magicians show).

Offerings include seafood, sushi, a raw bar, a steakhouse, a Brazilian churrascaria, plus Japanese, Italian and French restaurants. For something more casual, there is an American Diner near the pool. The tiny studio cabins were designed and priced for the solo traveler. All the studios are on the inside but have a porthole window looking into the hallway. These cabins are designed for cleaning up, dressing, and sleeping.

Cabins on decks 10, 11 and 12 are great for light sleepers, as they’re not shared with any loud public venues and are located above and beneath other rooms. What does the Norwegian Breakaway offer in terms of “things to do? ” The ship features 20 restaurants, 10 bars, 13 activities, and 9 other features for your enjoyment.

While you can take your chances and walk in, you need to give up some flexibility so as not to miss out. One reason we love cruising is the fantastic food that you are sure to overindulge in! In terms of complementary offerings, the Norwegian Breakaway includes three main dining rooms, two specialty restaurants and a buffet for all guests. As such, we have sailed with Norwegian, Royal Caribbean and Princess. While each cruise line has its strengths, we have found all three to be about the same in terms of service and overall operation.
